Is my hair long enough for extensions?
I recommend your hair be at least 4-5 inches long, however, I can and have put extensions on even shorter hair. I would need to see your hair to assess if it is possible. Please contact me for a free consult.
How long will the extensions last?
Each application method has a different duration which depends on the clients hair growth cycle, care regimen and natural oils.
Tape extensions typically last for 6-8 weeks before they need to be taken down, re-taped and reapplied. Fusion lasts for 4-5 months before they are removed and nano and micro link typically need to maintained every 2 months. It is normal to lose a few bonds, or for the tapes to slip eventually. If you do lose a bond, keep it in a ziplock and bring them with you to your next maintenance appointment to be reapplied.
What type of hair do you use?
I use Premium double drawn 100% Remy European hair. It is the best on the market; silky soft and long lasting. Thick hair from end to end. Its gorgeous!
Is the hair re-useable?
Absolutely. If the hair has been properly maintained and cared for you can re-use the hair for up to 9 months.
How often should I wash my extensions?
Hair extensions should be washed about every 3-4 days. Its ok to wet the hair if you feel like you need to wash the crown of your head, but do not use shampoo on the hair extensions lengths more than every 3-4 days. Washing the hair too often will dry the hair out as the natural oils from your scalp do not reach the lengths of the hair. Thus the extensions lengths do not get as dirty as the crown of your hair. Try to limit the washing of the lengths to 2 times a week. Remember, condition, condition, condition. Your extensions will thank you for it.
How do I wash and condition my hair?
Always use a sulfate free shampoo. Use warm or cool water and use cool water to close the cuticle after the hair has been rinsed. Try not to saturate your bonds with conditioner. Put conditioner on the lengths from the ears down, then pull conditioner through the crown of your hair. Let the conditioner sit in your hair for a couple minutes before rinsing out.
How do I dry and style my hair extensions?
Do not brush your hair when wet. Untangle your hair by brushing it before you take a shower. Squeeze all the excess water from your hair and use a towel to squeeze dry the hair. Do not tie up in a turban or ruffle the hair roughly as this will create tangles. Air dry as much as possible. I like to to air dry my hair until its almost dry then blow dry it to add a little bounce. Never, never go to bed with wet hair! This will ruin your extensions. After your hair is dry (a little damp is ok) put your hair in one or two loose braids for sleeping.
You can treat the hair extensions like your real hair. You can use a flat iron, curling iron, blow dryer etc on your hair to style, just avoid touching the hot tool on the bonds. Heat dries out hair, plain and simple. Using a heat protectant is always a good idea if you are going to use hot tools.
Can I go swimming with my hair extensions?
Water containing chlorine will result in colour fade, uncontrolled bleaching and dryness. If possible avoid chlorine pools, however, you can either wear a shower cap or tie your hair in a tight braid or bun. Rinse your hair immediately after swimming in chlorine and spray with leave in conditioner. If you water at home has high amounts of chlorine you may want to get a water filter on your shower head as it will protect your hair from the drying effects of the chlorine.
Will hair extensions make my natural hair thinner?
Absolutely not. Your natural hair sheds about 60-100 hairs a on a daily basis. This natural shedding process will continue while you have your extensions in. The shedded hair can get caught in your attachments. It is important to use your fingernails to get in between the bonds and loosen up those hairs. I will show you how to do this on your installation appointment. It's an easy step you do once a week and it is the secret to keeping your hair healthy while wearing extensions.
When we remove you extensions, there will be some shedding still, and this is normal. When we remove I take it slow and easy to minimize any chance of damage.
What should I do to prepare for my visit to get hair extensions installed?
Please freshly wash your hair and ensure it is 100% dry. Do not put any products on your hair, for example, no leave in conditioner, oils, hairspray, etc.
